DISNEY CHANNEL ANNOUNCES NEW ORIGINAL COMEDY SERIES "WELCOME TO MOLLYWOOD" STARRING DEMI LOVATO

BURBANK, May 21, 2008. . . Disney Channel has ordered the live-action comedy series, "Welcome to Mollywood" (working title), with rising young star and recording artist Demi Lovato ("As the Bell Rings," "Camp Rock") in the lead role, it was announced today by Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, Disney Channels Worldwide.

Marsh said, "Our success is completely driven by the talent we partner with -- in front of and behind the camera. The entire ‘Mollywood’ creative team is the best in the business when it comes to creating break-out kid and family comedy. And Demi Lovato -- actress, singer and songwriter -- is without a doubt the next big talent to emerge from Disney Channel."

The multi-talented Lovato was introduced to Disney Channel viewers last year in the short form comedy series "As the Bell Rings." She next stars in two Disney Channel Original Movies, "Camp Rock," opposite the Jonas Brothers (premiering Friday, June 20), and "Princess Protection Program" with Selena Gomez (premiering later this season). She has a solo recording contract with Disney's Hollywood Records and will perform this summer on the Jonas Brothers "Burning Up" concert tour.

"Welcome to Mollywood" also stars Tiffany Thornton (of the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie "Hatching Pete") as Tawni Hart, Brandon Mychal Smith as Nico, Doug Brochu as Grady and Allisyn Ashley Arm as Zora.

In "Welcome to Mollywood," Lovato stars as Molly, a talented 15-year-old Midwestern girl who, after a nationwide search, is chosen to travel to Los Angeles to join the cast of the most popular and long-running teen sketch comedy show on TV. Set around Molly's home and work life, the series will feature a show-within-a-show, with fully produced comedy sketches. The sitcom will begin production in September for premiere during the 2008-09 season on Disney Channel.

"Welcome to Mollywood" is executive-produced by Brian Robbins and his producing partner, Sharla Sumpter Bridgett, under the recently formed company Varsity Pictures. Steve Marmel (Toon Disney/Jetix's series "Yin Yang Yo," "Fairly Odd Parents") will also executive-produce, along with Michael Feldman (Disney Channel's "That's So Raven," "Cory in the House"). The pilot was directed by Lee Shallat Chemel and is her fourth pilot that has been picked up as a series for Disney Channel. Her additional pilots are "Hannah Montana," "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" and "That's So Raven." The pilot was written by Steve Marmel and Michael Feldman, and the series is being produced by Varsity Pictures and It's a Laugh Productions.

"The creative team of Marmel and Feldman, along with Demi Lovato and the entire cast, will support the success of this unique and highly conceptualized comedy for tweens," stated Robbins. "We look forward to moving into production and to working closely with Disney Channel on the series."

In the most ambitious, colorful and ebullient Disney Channel Original Movie yet, "The Cheetah Girls One World," Chanel, Dorinda and Aqua unleash their 'growl power' in India. There they pursue the chance of a lifetime, starring roles in a Bollywood film. "The Cheetah Girls One World" will debut FRIDAY, AUGUST 22 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel U.S. and, soon thereafter, on Disney Channels around the world. The movie was filmed entirely on location in picturesque Udaipur, India and uses historic landmarks including the towering City Palace as its backdrop.

Leading up to the August premiere, Disney Channel will provide kids and families an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the movie in the 12 part series, "The Road to The Cheetah Girls One World," debuting FRIDAY, MAY 16 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel and DisneyChannel.com. New segments will premiere biweekly in May, June and July, and weekly in August.

Multi-talented actresses/singers/dancers Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams and Sabrina Bryan return as best friends Chanel, Aqua and Dorinda in the third "Cheetah Girls" movie. It also stars Roshan Seth as Uncle Kamal, Kunal Sharma as Amar, Rupak Ginn as Rahim, Michael Steger as Vikram "Vik" Bhatia and Deepti Daryanani as Gita.

"The Road to The Cheetah Girls One World" opens as Adrienne, Kiely and Sabrina get ready for the adventure of filming a movie in India, from rehearsals to the first day of production in Udaipur, shooting scenes in various locales, including Monsoon Palace. In subsequent episodes, viewers are invited along as the cast gets an introduction to India's primary language of Hindi, and to their dance rehearsal with choreographer Fatima Robinson, who instructs them on the movie's fusion of hip hop and traditional Indian dance.
The music and dance-driven story of "The Cheetah Girls One World" follows Chanel, Aqua and Dorinda -- The Cheetah Girls -- as they travel from New York to India to star in a film directed by an aspiring Bollywood movie director. Upon arriving, they are shocked to learn their movie's producer has a role for only one Cheetah Girl. Dreams and friendships are tested as they begin to compete against each other for the title role. Before long, the three girls start to question their commitment to The Cheetah Girls' dream, and each must weigh her own aspirations against the group's future.

Following on the heels of Miley Cyrus' successful 3-D movie, the Jonas Brothers will be getting the 3-D treatment as well with a concert film of their upcoming Burning Up tour.
The Jonas Brothers served as the opening act for Miley last year and subsequently made their mark on the big screen in her blockbuster "Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus Best Of Both Worlds Concert."
Their film will follow the same concept, combining documentary behind-the-scenes takes with concert footage from their North American tour, kicking off in July and is slated for a 2009 release.
"We can't wait to start working on this film for our fans," Kevin, Joe and Nick said in a statement. "It's going to be awesome and we really want to bring a totally unique and different movie experience to everyone whether they've seen us live or not."

FILMING FOR "HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3" BEGINS TODAY IN UTAH

Bright and early this morning, the stars are at Salt Lake City's East High for the shooting of "High School Musical 3: Senior Year." Gov. Jon Huntsman welcomed the cast yesterday morning at a news conference at East High School. In the third movie, it's Senior Year and sweethearts Troy and Gabriella are preparing to attend different colleges. Zac Efron, who plays Troy Bolton, was asked how this third musical will be different than the other two hits. "We're kind of deciding for ourselves what we're going to do with our future, whether it be college; I know for my character, basketball is a huge priority," he said. The film is scheduled for release this fall, but Vanessa Hudgens, who plays Gabriella Montez, refused to give away the romantic plot. "You definitely see relationships blossom. I'm not gonna give it away, but it's really good" she said. As for the real Wildcat students, they say they love the publicity for the school. "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" will be in theaters October 24th

The cast of High School Musical 3: Senior Year participates in the start-of-production press conference at East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah today. Director Kenny Ortega, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Monique Coleman and Corbin Bleu were present for the conference. Principal photography will start tomorrow May 3. High School Musical 3: Senior Year will be shot on location in Salt Lake City, Utah and is set for release in theaters October 24.
